Gang Gang Dance, from Manhattan, NYC, have just released their 5th studio album, Eye Contact on 4AD.
I must admit I haven’t fully explored their back catalouge but Eye Contact seems like a worthy follow up to the previous releases. They take the electronic ‘space jam’ principle that was so popular last year and add an international twist, producing an experimental album that is both intricate and listener friendly. There are a wide range of influences from numerous countries, from Oriental to Greek, meaning the whole thing is a melting pot of interesting and fresh ideas.
As usual I’m struggling to put this sort of album into a well defined box. Have a listen (on Spotify if you wish) and decide for yourself.
Oh and isn’t the artwork brilliant? My inner entomologist was thrilled.
