I know I said that I wouldn’t be blogging but for Okkervil River I’ll make an exception.
I’m not going to lie, this album is easily my most anticipated of the year and I may be inclined to heap praise on it regardless of it’s quality. HOWEVER, judging by the few listens I have had at the NPR website (stream it in full here) there is no need to worry about false praise, this album is a belter. I don’t want to break down this album, over-analyse it and draw comparisons but I will hazard a guess and say that if you liked Black Sheep Boy then you will love this.
It seems, like The National last year, one of my favourite bands has somehow found a way to fulfil the promise and potential of a new album. I can’t wait for May 10th so I can get my copy!
