Snow Mantled Love – Romance 126

Snow Mantled Love are a bedroom pop outfit from London, Ontario who have just released Romance 126, their six-song debut release. The band are led by Danielle Fricke (who, incidentally, also releases pretty cool solo records), who’s soft and intimate vocals float throughout the album, sometimes little more than a delicate murmur, and combine with the instrumentation to provide an enveloping and melancholy atmosphere. It’s difficult (and unfair) to draw any direct comparisons but certain tracks have the hushed and mournful ambience of early Sigur Ros, while others remind me more of early releases from Sharon van Etten or Laura Gibson. But Snow Mantled Love are something novel and unique and so these references may be way off. Romance 126 certainly deserves your attention and I for one can’t wait for more. I have included my current favourite track, In The End, in the player below so check it out!

You can purchase the album on a name-your-price basis over at the band’s Bandcamp page. This includes paying absolutely nothing but I’m sure a small donation would be much appreciated (and in fact would go towards buying the necessary equipment to embark on a tour of live shows – according to Fricke).
