Arrange is Malcolm Lacey, a teenager from Florida. Plantation is his first full-length album, having previously released three EPs (which are available on his Bandcamp). The album is an intriguing mix of elements, from droning guitar feedback to melodic piano sections, all set to a backdrop of lush ambient soundscapes. The tone here is decidedly morose and is certainly more emotionally draining than other popular bedroom artists such as Washed Out. To me this is only increases the beauty on offer, and the hurt and frustration that are clearly evident haven’t affected the accessibility or accomplishment of the work.
I certainly can’t recommend this album enough as well as his previous releases, which although slightly less accessible, are well worth a free download. You can also pick up Plantation on limited edition vinyl (also from his Bandcamp) which comes with the artwork featured above by Jesse Treece.
