The first taste of the record is ‘Across the City’, a polished power pop jam that belies its lo-fi roots. Kaleta wrote and recorded the record in various Airbnbs in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, and ‘Across the City’ attempts to capture the sense of uncertainty and excitement of living in an unfamiliar city. There’s a sun-soaked easiness to the arpeggiated guitars, but there’s a wistful edge too, sights and sounds and smells of the city evoking a vivid, bittersweet nostalgia for a certain someone.

Ultimately, despite being immersed in the bustle of millions of other people, it’s a song about a solitary existence. “My friends in Buenos Aires would always comment how everyone leaves the city in the summertime to escape the unbearable heat,” Kaleta explains, “and I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to be totally alone in the capital. Beautiful, peaceful, surreal, and, ultimately, very lonely.”

A full-length record was written during time as a full band in Seattle, and now that three of the four members have since departed, it’s being labelled as the ‘Seattle album’ of the Tincho timeline. After literally years of mastering, Tincho are finally gearing up toward the release of the record, and are unveiling a series of singles in the run up.

Last month saw the peppy ‘I Got Home Today’, a love song aimed not toward a special person but a special place. “It was written while I was reading a book on lost places in Seattle,” Kaleta explains, “and even though I did not grow up there nor knew any of these places, I couldn’t help but feel like I had been.” The single is written from the perspective of a transplant trying to imagine the feelings of a local as their once familiar city transforms slowly before their eyes. Many an urban space is subject to gentrification these days, but Seattle, with its burgeoning tech industry, is experiencing it more severely and rapidly than most. ‘I Got Home Today’ is an elegy for an old city, one slowly disintegrating beneath polished glass and steel.

Today, we’re excited to share a brand new single, ‘Clementine’. Adopting a heavier, more shoegaze-inspired tone than the previous song, the single possesses a crepuscular air, a sound for that time of evening when the sun has dropped yet night has not quite won out. This interplay between light and dark is indicative of a track concerned with bittersweet emotions, where pain and desire are intertwined into one desperate thread.

‘Beekeeper’ is a frenetic opener, throwing us into a squall of guitars and drums upon which Tincho’s vocals float, the relentless noise juxtaposed against his even-toned, almost detached delivery. ‘Golden Car’ is more far less hurried, a languid summer number which might coalesce into something more serious if only night should fall, but instead stretches on in the amber light of dusk.

“She drives around in her golden car,
I can barely hear myself over the burn
She picks me up in her golden car
I don’t think anything could stop her
No, we don’t need anything to stop this
I don’t need anything to simmer down
Take me the long way home”

As we described in our previous post, ‘Seattle’ (and its accompanying video) has “a weirded-out 90s vibe, a time of neon-drenched puddles and mass UFO sightings within the dead limits of big cities”, following a loner protagonist moving through these scenes in a dreamy abstraction, “feeling a few notches loose from society”. The catchy ‘Underwater Eyes’ picks up with what seems to be the tale of missed opportunities with a face from televisual advertisements (“I’ve been watching your TV commercial on repeat / Seven years don’t seem too far in my dreams”), while closer ‘We Dono’ returns to the loose-limbed sloppiness of ‘Golden Car’, though here the tone is decidedly more contemplative, the verses building toward the titular expression of confusion.

“I cherish the hard times
Wear them close to my soul
You know I don’t like that
that I’m leaving alone”

‘Seattle’, a rowdy track of glo-fi pop, comes complete with a video from Chicago-based Ryan Ohm and Weird Life Films (Twin Peaks, Gauntlet Hair, Yawn). Shot onto 16mm film in the Weeping Willows at Elmhurst, IL, the footage has a weirded-out 90s vibe, a time of neon-drenched puddles and mass UFO sightings within the dead limits of big cities. The loner lead character passes through these scenes operating to his own logic, feeling a few notches loose from society and reality and the curious freedom that can bring. As Ohm explains: “Amidst packing bags and hitting a new coast, a boy falls deeper into alien conspiracies while drifting through his mind on his moped. Maybe the fumes are getting to him.”

Still, he manages to conjure enough lucid thinking to dream of something more satisfying, namely escape to the West Coast.

Maybe I will see ya there

I’m waving bye to shit hole Chicago
Baby you don’t even care
I will find another band to take care of me
