It’s a mammoth undertaking, featuring 106 “(mostly) original (mostly) unreleased”  tracks from 106 different artists, a number chosen to mark the 106 years since the British Government’s 1917 Balfour Declaration. Obviously, that’s too many artists to list, but rest assured it contains a ton of good stuff, including acts we have featured in the past, such as Swim Camp, Tuxis Giant, Kitchen, Greg Mendez, Bummer Camp, Shunkan and more.

You can only get access to the music by making a direct donation to the PCRF via the donation page. Once you’ve done that, email or DM a screenshot of the donation to Bee Side Cassettes (beesidecassettes@gmail.com) to be sent a download.

Due to overwhelming demand from both artists and donators, Bee Side Cassettes have decided to work on a second compilation, For Gaza Vol. 2. This one will comprise of 75 tracks, symbolising the 75 years since the start of The Nakba, the mass displacement and dispossession of Palestinians by Israeli settlers during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

In the meantime, the good folks over at Art is Hard Records are releasing the first single, ‘Our Names’ as a taste of what’s to come. The track certainly packs a punch, rattling along in just under two minutes, adding a heaping spoonful of power pop to what we’ve come to expect from Shunkan.

‘Our Names’ is being released as a limited edition A6 screenprinted comic (courtesy of Hats and Milk), which comes complete with a digital download of the track and also demo versions of two other tracks from the forthcoming album. Order the single here.

‘Shunkan’ translates from Japanese as ‘moment’ or ‘in a moment’, and Sakimoto holds the idea close to her heart. ‘It’s how I want to live from now on,’ she says. ‘Not try and plan out the next 10 years of my life.’ The idea is close to that of Abby Gundersen and her ’never-ending struggle to remain in the present’ (which we wrote about here).

Shunkan’s debut EP, Milk, Honey & Blood, is set to be released on Art is Hard Records on the 5th May. You can pre-order it here.
