Crook Decker – Beacon

You might know Jude Lilley as part of London-based psych-pop outfit Moreish Idols, but after a strange experience during the pandemic lockdown, he is now setting out solo for brand new project Crook Decker. Debut full-length Graffiti Lagoon will be released later this month via Seb Wildblood’s acclaimed label all my thoughts, and Lilley has put out single ‘Beacon’ to give a taste of the unexpectedly humid, tropical tones of a release which reimagines Bermondsey as a bayou. “It was during an insanely hot, pandemic summer in 2020 that my astro-turfed terrace became an oasis,” as Lilley explains. “The world was getting sick, Peckham was a desert, and London was a swamp, but somehow, up there, I was protected from it all. I began to write through the eyes of Crook Decker, a lonesome swamp dweller who swears by the superficial mantra ‘ignorance is bliss’ as he trots through his environment, refusing to take in the real world around him.”

Graffiti Lagoon will be released on the 12th November via all my thoughts and you can pre-order it now.

G1rldad – Biter

“kissing on the bruise / that reminds me of you / and where you left your love,” sings G1rldad on new single ‘Biter’. Based in San Luis Obispo, California, the project makes an emotive style of indie rock in the vein of Sadurn, and the new track is the ideal introduction to their work. A song delivered with a certain level of restraint, built from a tender hush that is never quite punctured, but not lacking any force of feeling as a result. Because within the intimate style the vocals emerge with a confessional conviction, speaking to the private intimacies of queer love as though to reinforce their joy and meaning.

Biter by G1rldad
‘Biter’ is out now and available from Bandcamp.

Honey I’m Home – Insecure

“Operating at the intersection of shoegaze, indie rock and post-punk” was how we described the work of Dutch band Honey I’m Home back in March, with single ‘Wishful Thinking‘ using shadowy textures and visceral energy to tap “into ethereal moods without sacrificing a certain emotional immediacy to achieve a cathartic sound.” Described by the band as a song “about the notion that carefree innocence doesn’t exist,” new single ‘Insecure’ dials up this cathartic element even further. A song which rallies against the patriarchal structures of society with both fury and something more hopeful, its soaring crescendos playing like a wish for a better version of the present, where everyone is free to live and move the world without fear.

‘Insecure’ is out now and available from the usual places.

Joyer – Favorite

Joyer‘s new album On the Other End of the Line… was created in novel conditions for the duo, siblings Nick and Shane Sullivan working through separation, loneliness, post-tour blues and the perpetual uncertainty around the purpose of making music. Previous singles like ‘Glare of the Beer Can‘ and ‘At the Movies‘ suggested potential escapes from this slow crush of life, but with the album now out via Julia’s War Recordings, the Sullivans have returned with new single ‘Favorite’ which takes a slightly different approach. Because instead of distracting themselves or dreaming of different worlds, the song sees the pair confront the frustrations of making art in a world of short attention spans and a thousand new acts a minute, emerging not with dismay but instead a regained conviction. Because, as the title suggests, making music is their favourite thing to do despite all the associated baggage, and On the Other End of the Line… is a testament to that undying passion.

Lia Kohl – Voting Line, Downtown Chicago

Back in October we introduced Various Small Whistles and a Song, the new album from Chicago-based composer Lia Kohl which takes inspiration from the Ed Ruscha work of a similar name to use a series of ostensibly humble tracks to evoke larger social situations and spaces. “The result is an attempt to convey the subtle textures of life in a way that feels at once incidental and carefully curated,” we wrote, “and one that ultimately adds up to something far greater than the sum of its parts.” With the record coming in a couple of weeks via Dauw, Kohl has shared new track ‘Voting Line, Downtown Chicago’, which, as the title suggests, was recorded while waiting to vote in 2024. “The person in front of me began whistling, and the sound carried through the marble lobby, adding levity to our collective anxious solemnity.” A track only a minute long but loaded with all the context of society and history, the sonic equivalent of Frederick Wiseman’s Cinéma vérité.

Lydia Luce – Belly

We’ve covered a couple of singles from Lydia Luce‘s new album Mammoth in recent months, establishing both the style and thematic concerns of a record all about pain and recovery. First ‘Quiet‘, a song, as we wrote, “all about the slow process of learning to not only tolerate silence but embrace its power within a noisy world.” Then ‘Ephemeral‘, a duet with Luke Sital-Singh which used strings, winds, piano, viola and cello to create a sound which rises towards almost classical peaks. With the album out now, Luce has shared a new single ‘Belly’. The first song written for the album, it is a fitting choice to celebrate the release. A track which originated in the depths of a period of suffering yet nevertheless asserted the potential of recovery, as though in some way instigating not only the rest of the record but also the path back to health Luce’s life would take. “This song is about being more than the state of my physical body,” she explains, as well as “being patient with ourselves as we heal.” Watch the video by by Jason Lee Denton and Aliegh Shields below:

paer – Power Lines

LA duo paer have introduced themselves this year with a couple of singles, showing off a style which utilises layered vocals and shimmering guitars to evoke nostalgic soundscapes full of texture and light. To close out their debut year, paer have released ‘Power Lines’, the second track on a double single which does far more than establish the project’s tone. Delve into the hazy richness of the sound and you’ll find there’s an entire world beneath the surface, exploring ideas of grief and mourning with real nuance. The aftermath of loss, the song suggests, is a delicate balance. A push and pull between the past and the future where the seeming opposite desires to commemorate and move on must be handled with care. But far from championing one over the other, or indeed suggesting any sense of competition, paer instead paint a picture where apparent contradictions can coexist. “To be everything at once, to be nothing, in the same light.”

Power Lines by paer
Power Lines is out now via Anxiety Blanket Records and available from Bandcamp.

Rainwater – Bluebelly

Yesturday & Tamarlow, the new record from Rainwater sits at a crossroads between terror and wonder. Written following the birth of lead Blake Luley’s first daughter, the record explores both the anxieties and joys of parenthood, particularly its bewildering early days. All this is delivered in a style Luley sums up as “Arthur Russell fronting a 2000s era indie rock band,” proving the perfect vehicle as it slides from gently dreamy indie pop to taut indie rockers like single ‘Shadow’ which, as we described in a preview “sees the project lean further towards post-punk than ever before.” Today we’re focusing on ‘Bluebelly’, a lush and romantic look at the “devoured days” of a new baby which captures the record’s ethos perfectly. As Glen Boudin’s perceptive liner notes put it: “Becoming a parent is scary, a radical recontextualization of your entire life, but it’s also a beautiful, mysterious encounter with infinite love.”

Yesturday & Tamarlow by Rainwater
Yesturday & Tamarlow is out now and available from the Rainwater Bandcamp page.

Snocaps – Heathcliff

It can be easy to forget Katie and Allison Crutchfield started out their careers in collaboration, the Alabama twins winning acclaim in the beloved yet short-lived P.S. Eliot before going onto bigger things with Waxahatchee and Swearin’ respectively. So it is extra satisfying to see things come full circle with the surprise announcement of new project Snocaps. Comprised of the Crutchfields plus MJ Lenderman and Brad Cook, the project offers a new vehicle for them to explore the overlaps and divergences of their different solo paths. Their self-titled album shadow dropped via ANTI- on Halloween so there’s plenty to dig into, but where better to start than a track named after everyone’s favourite orange cat?

Snocaps by Snocaps
Snocaps is out now via ANTI- and you can get it from Bandcamp.

Tim Heidecker – Alone Until I’m Home

Last month we introduced Passages: Artists in Solidarity with Immigrants, Refugees, and Asylum Seekers, coming this December via Western Vinyl in support of Texas-based organisations, American Gateways and Casa Marianella. Produced and organised by Emilie Rex and Rick Alverson in response to the precarity and cruelty of the present moment,” we wrote, “Passages is a new project which asked artists to write and record a song in a place that feels like home.” A huge range of artists are involved, with the offerings from Alan Sparhawk and Benjamin Booker released as early singles to hint at the compassion and solidarity of the release. Now Western Vinyl have unveiled Tim Heidecker‘s similarly heartfelt ‘Alone Until I’m Home’. The compilation’s closing track and in many ways an embodiment of its message, the song is a lucid, sincere ballad for all those travelling or displaced, be they hoping to return home or else find a new place which might, in time, come to feel like one.

Van Chamberlain – Miracle Drug

Over the coming months, Brooklyn‘s Van Chamberlain will be sharing their second album As Far As the Eye Can See, a planned ‘waterfall release’ where a new single is shared month by month until the entire thing is released. Oh and five two-song cassettes will drop in-sync with the singles and videos too. For now, we have our first taste of the record with ‘Miracle Drug’, a lush track pitched somewhere between the dreamy haze of dream pop and something more jangly and bright. The result is decidedly bittersweet in nature, a nascent crush brought to life in all of its longing and shimmering potential. Where the line between melancholy and possibility is porous and the world itself feels new.

Miracle Drug by Van Chamberlain

Agent blå – Shapes

After the success of 2024 full-length Stab!—an album which, as we described, combined “shoegaze textures and post-punk energy into something as immersive as it is momentous”— Gothenburg outfit Agent blå are back with new single ‘Shapes’. Energised by the positive experience of releasing the previous record, the band attacked the new material with fresh vigour, the song coming exactly a decade after their debut release but sounding as committed and impassioned as ever. The result, which offers a picture of a person navigating the choppy waters of trauma with Agent blå’s signature mix of intensity and ethereality, also represents their first step into the future, laying the groundwork for the next stage in their evolution.

Shapes by Agent Blå
‘Shapes’ is out now via via Kanine Records (USA) and VÅRØ Records (Sweden) and you can get it from Bandcamp.

Cameron Knowler – La Paz

Writing back in March, we previewed Cameron Knowler new album CRK with single ‘Secret Water’. “Imagine the guitar work of Bert Jansch and John Renbourn combined with the older string band tradition from Appalachia and you’d be getting somewhere close,” as we put it. “But true to the CRK spirit, the result is also specific to Arizona, working to conjure the landscape in both fine detail and broad strokes.” With the album now out via Worried Songs, Knowler has shared another single ‘La Paz’. Set around a ghost town north of Yuma, Arizona, the track is mournful but never hopeless, twin acoustic guitars painting a wistful reflection on the passing of time.

CRK by Cameron Knowler
CRK is out now via Worried Songs and available from Bandcamp.

The Convenience – Western Pepsi Cola Town

“The immediate sense of the track is one of bright confidence, though something else moves beneath the surface,” we wrote of ‘Dub Vultures’ from The Convenience‘s upcoming LP Like Cartoon Vampires on Winspear. “A counter force of sharp angles and acerbic attitude which lends an undeniably dark undercurrent […] As though the momentum isn’t some dependable force but rather an unstable chain of motion.” With the release of the album fast approaching, the New Orleans duo has unveiled new single ‘Western Pepsi Cola Town’ to ramp up the excitement. A track no less momentous or changeable in style, typifying The Convenience’s metamorphosis from whimsical indie pop act into something between post-punk and art rock, a transformation which nevertheless retains the sense of playfulness which marked their previous releases.

Foxtails Brigade – Gimme A Sign

“A poignant ode to those who exist at some kind of angle to the conventional modes of living, too often shunned by the cultural and political gatekeepers of their time.” So we wrote of ‘Forevermore’, the lead single from forthcoming full-length Red Album by Foxtails Brigade last month. Latest track ‘Gimme A Sign’ further introduces the style of a record which sees the San Francisco project push further into pop than ever before. The band say “clockwork nylon guitar riffs and unconventional kitchenware percussion” remains at the core of their sound, but the new single shows how retaining such signature features does not preclude a pivot towards anthemic pop. “Gimme a sign, something I could recognize,” Laura Weinbach demands in the chorus, her words embodying the underlying urgency which propels the track forward.

‘Gimme A Sign’ is out now. You can sign up for early access of Red Album on the Foxtails Brigade website.

Larum – O Choruscans

We covered a couple of singles from Larum‘s The Music of Hildegard von Bingen, Part Two, an album on Puremagnetik which sees Chet Doxas and Micah Frank reimagine the work of abbess, theologian, mystic and composer Hildegard von Bingen to demonstrate, as we put it in a preview “how the techniques and conventions of the twelfth century can used to create novel sounds within the contemporary moment.” Latest single ‘O Choruscans’ furthers this style with a subtle blend of woodwind and electronics, its layered approach drawing the listener into its almost spiritual world. The result is neither medieval nor futuristic but instead collapses the distinction between the two. Not old, not new, but timeless.

The Music of Hildegard von Bingen Part II by Larum
The Music of Hildegard von Bingen, Part Two will be available on the 11th April via Puremagnetik and you can pre-order it now.

Neighbourly – Thread Count

“The concept of this EP was simply to have fun together making it.” So describe Vancouver Island psych rock outfit Neighbourly of their new release Get In, coming this summer on Earth Libraries. A release which promises to champion the possibilities when a group of friends get together and create without pressure or expectation. If lead single ‘Thread Count’ is anything to go by, the enjoyment and spontaneity of the process bled into the music itself. Built around a central bassline and Lauren Giorgio’s sardonic vocal style, the song combines post-punk attitude with an altogether more mischievous air, bending the aloof cool so typical of the genre with a tongue-in-cheek playfulness.

Get In by Neighbourly
Get In will be released on the 2nd July via Earth Libraries and you can pre-order it now.

Nymphlord – Call Me Up

Back in 2023 we reviewed Mothers Cry And Then We Die. by Nymphlord on Lauren Records. “If the opening track is a representation of falling into a dream,” we wrote, “then the entire EP is a larger recreation of the feeling. A descent into a memory of a past generation which nevertheless works through the pressing issues of the present.” Now Nymphlord is back with new EP Rough Blue Blanket, and lead single ‘Call Me Up’ introduces the release’s intimate tone. Taking inspiration from sources as diverse as sixties folk and nineties grunge, the song celebrates the small moments within the everyday which together add up to form the fondest of memories.

Rough Blue Blanket by Nymphlord
Rough Blue Blanket is out on the 23rd May via Lauren Records and you can pre-order it now.

Rainwater – Shadow

The first single of what promises to be a busy year for Blake Luley’s Rainwater, ‘Shadow’ sees the project lean further towards post-punk than ever before. The song originated as Luley observed his long early morning shadow one day and soon shifted into a wider exploration of associated themes. Namely what Luley labels his ‘shadow self’, which houses the buried parts of his identity. “As I’ve become more and more of a ‘real adult’, I’ve had to strategically bury so many aspects of my identity in the service of productivity and responsibility” he explains. “Having a child and being a teacher both reinforces keeping that shadow hidden, while also allowing little moments of my child-like shadow self to be tall and proud.” With equal parts lightness and weight, the result traces the fluctuations of this shadow as it shifts across days and circumstances—sometimes scary, sometimes shameful, sometimes the small secret that keeps you going through the day.

Shadow by Rainwater
‘Shadow’ is out now and available from the Rainwater Bandcamp page.

Tom Lark – Dive On In

With a number of singles in recent months, Tom Lark has gradually introduced the diverse tone of new album Moonlight Hotel. Be it ‘Rock & Roll Baby’ “using a laidback brand of psych folk to take on the rollercoaster ride that is life,” as we put it, or the altgether darker ‘Fuselage’, a song “all shadowy attitude and brooding edge,” as we wrote, “where the [previous] carefree spirit falters, change suddenly something dangerous and daunting.” With the full album now out, Tom Lark has shared final single and focus track ‘Dive On In’. With a languid rhythm that might be read as relaxed or melancholic, the song takes on climate anxiety with Shannon Fowler’s signature sense of juxtaposition. Pay no attention to the lyrics and you might enjoy a calm if slightly wistful sound, but dig any deeper and you’ll discover a dizzying dread beneath the surface. How do we live in a world on fire? How do we live with ourselves when there seems to be nothing we can do?

Moonlight Hotel by TOM LARK
Moonlight Hotel is out now and available from Bandcamp.

Triathalon – Down

Funeral Music, the new album from Triathalon upcoming on Lex Records, aims to provide exactly what its title promises. “It is not every day you come across an album built around the maxim ‘play this at my funeral’,” as we wrote back in February. But after single ‘RIP’ heralding what might be the NYC project’s “darkest and most unguarded collection of songs to date,” Triathalon are back with new single ‘Down’. Fans will recognise the spirit of previous releases persisting on the new track, but the extra layers of gloom and grit twist the languid pop into something altogether new. If Triathalon are known for sunny tones then we’ve hit the dusk period, where the light is failing and a long nocturnal dark stretches out ahead.

Funeral Music will be released on the 16th May via Lex Records and you can pre-order it now.

Rainwater is the project of Seattle, Washington‘s Blake Luley, who works somewhere at the intersection of rock, folk and electronic genres to conjure a sound at once familiar and strange. The style has proven fitting, with recent Rainwater albums chronicling changes in Luley’s life and exploring the balance between the known and unknown. Released in 2017, Place centred on a cross-country move from New York to the Pacific Northwest, while 2019’s Saturn Return drew on the astrological themes of the title to push into the change and rebirth involved in finding a new home, not to mention the altered relationships that result.

This summer sees the release of In-Between, a brand new Rainwater LP to be released on vinyl and cassette via Furious Hooves and Luley’s own label, The Home Dome. The title is once again fitting, because while he is now settled in a new home, the record finds Luley experiencing a number of other fundamental changes. The songs were recorded in snatches of free time while finishing grad school, starting to teach at an elementary and preparing for the birth of his first child, not to mention the ongoing pandemic. An album, in other words, recorded in between the more pressing demands on one’s life.

As ever, Rainwater take on such themes shrewdly, homing in on specific situations and emotions within these larger circumstances and casting everything in a poppy, dreamy light. Anxiety and grief might be the driving emotions, but In-Between is probably the most vivid offering yet. This time Luley plays all the instruments, inviting wife Aviva Stampfer, cousin Amy Godwin and friend Stephen Steen to provide lush vocal harmonies. Add in drum machines, synths and drifting, glistening guitars, and the result is anything but gloomy. As the press release puts it: Who knew working through the hardest experiences of your life could sound so fun?

Today sees the release of the LP’s second single, ‘Us Only’, which you can listen to below. With its weightless synths and near-whispered vocals, the track evokes the shimmering dread of sleepless nights, emerging raw and tenderised and in search of some reprieve. The atmosphere will be familiar to anyone who’s had even the briefest of skirmishes with insomnia. The hyper-vivid textures of sleep deprivation, a kind of emotional knife-edge where everything is cast in its most extreme light. The state finds Luley turn inward, collapsing the world down into its smallest, most bearable form. Taking consolation from the love close at hand.

Up all night,
mute dark meets mirrored moonlight
feel alright,
just not quite right

My eyes weak by the time
sun soaks sweaty sheets
my heart meek
by the time I remember what I need

Hold me like the world’s us only

When writing about Rainwater in the past, we’ve described the act as the solo project of Blake Luley. Their debut album Swimming in Sunlight, released in 2016 on Furious Hooves, explored the trials Luley faced growing up in Brooklyn, the record painting the anxiety and doubt of that time as a process through which hope and new life might be born. Follow-up EP, Place, was the natural progression of such a mindset, tracking Luley as he relocated to the Pacific Northwest and serving as a chronicle of the bittersweet perspective a new start can bring.

Rainwater are back with a brand new record, and the transformation has been ongoing in their absence. Again released with Furious Hooves, Saturn Returns sees Luley embrace a newly-collaborative style, welcoming Stephen Steen, James Kasinger and Amy and Drew Fitchette into the fold to cement Rainwater’s status as a full band. For the astrologically-minded, ‘Saturn return’ refers to the period when Saturn is restored to the position it occupied during one’s birth, supposedly ushering in a time of change and growth that can trigger a kind of self-actualisation, or even rebirth. Saturn Returns finds Rainwater in such a state, changing into a truer version of itself as Luley takes stock of his new home and relationships.

We’ve previously described the Rainwater sound as something of an amalgamation of dream rock, post-rock and folk (where “melancholy and hope ac[t] as counterbalances, light and dark swirling through one another in complex patterns”) and Saturn Returns leans further into the diverse sound. With the added heft of the band members, the arrangements are rich and heartfelt, permeated by a strange cousin of nostalgia that registers as a kind of fond melancholy for the present. “Now more than ever,” reads their bio, “Rainwater just sound like themselves.”

We’re pleased to share the lead single, ‘Pink Flowers’ in anticipation of the release. Rising out of a crepuscular quiet, the song slowly rises into something insistent and fierce, the dreamy meander of the opening half giving way to rises in tempo joined by impassioned vocals. The track comes with a suitably warm video, shot by Luley in Seattle and Bacalar, Mexico.

I don’t know who I am
I don’t understand
How you know
It’s truly you

We’re winding down for the holiday season right now, so the posts will be even more sporadic through December. We plan to use the time to check off a few gems that we missed through the year. Sometime near the end of the month, we’ll be putting up the requisite Favourite Albums/Songs of the Year lists, plus our annual round-up of the best Name-Your-Price releases on Bandcamp.

We wrote about Blake Luley’s Rainwater last year when they released their debut full length album, Swimming in Sunlight. The record, which was pitched somewhere between dream pop, post-rock and folk, was one of delicate balances, where the “dreamy shimmer is cut through with shoegazey percussion and post-rock flourishes, melancholy and hope acting as counterbalances, light and dark swirling through one another in complex patterns.” Rainwater are back with a brand new EP, Place, again released through our friends at Furious Hooves.

Place is a travelling album, documenting a trans-American trip as Luley relocated from New York to the Pacific Northwest. Thus, the ‘place’ of the title is a strange and vague one, a series of fleeting images as seen from the car window, each a home to stories and histories and ways of life, yet passed on by and replaced by the next location. If there’s a certain loneliness to this feeling, then it’s not an entirely unpleasant one, the roadside hush and constant motion producing a kind of wistful freedom, where no sadness or doubt can pin you down as long as the wheels are still turning and there’s asphalt left to cruise. This sense of isolation circles back thematically to Luley’s move—leaving familiarity behind, passing by all of these places that others call home, heading for a place in which you can only hope to feel comfort and belonging.

The meandering flow of ‘Driftwood’ picks up these ideas, speaking of the element of chance circumstance involved in any relocation, and ‘Coffee’ follows with a drowsy lack of focus, as though being cast between the past and future, old home and new, has sapped any sense of purpose and identity. Then, despite it’s sunny disposition, ‘Ordinary Pain’ confronts this head on, asking the question overtly:

“Will I know the pleasure
of settling down, being better off?
Will it bring me joy to know
I can settle down and let it go
or will I just hold this ordinary pain?”

‘Rolling Train’ has a sense of motion built into its very DNA, the dreamy vocals pining for movement and progression, before the rich instrumental interlude of ‘Burt’ heralds the closing title track. A warmly ambient song, ‘Place’ is again explicit in its questioning, playing like late night thinking where no amount of playing cool or keeping busy can stave off the obvious worries:

“How longs it take to forget a place?
The light it gives and the life it takes?
Is all of the waiting in vain?
What a waste”

However, in keeping with the release as a whole, ‘Place’ ends with a gentle sense of kindness (“Hold on, take the time to breath / Know it’s time and what you need “) which swells into a triumphant crescendo, as though through acknowledging then dropping concerns allows life in the moment, one where questions do not need to be answered right away, and decisions are not judged on the immediate results.

Place is out now via Furious Hooves and you can get it from Bandcamp, including a lovely cassette edition.

When the world is heading in a direction opposite to that you would choose, indifferent (and often outright nasty) figures are gaining power, and societal divisions are widening by the day, there’s a strong and justifiable urge to retreat to small circles, rebel against the outside pressures through self-expression and individuality. However, while creativity is unquestionably a force for good, now more than ever it’s important to remember that art alone cannot right every wrong, especially for those at the sharp end of the changes in policy and attitude that are continuing to grow across the world. Which isn’t to say art shouldn’t be one of our main weapons, it’s just a case of ensuring we use it in the correct way.

Take for example Friends For Equality, the benefit compilation in support of Southern Poverty Law Center, ACLU and Planned Parenthood put together by Nancy Kells and Fox Food Records. Collecting the talents of 42 acts, the release features a diverse range of unreleased tracks from all over the world, including WTD favs such as Henry Demos, Henoheno, PAT MOON, Rainwater, Francie Cool, Lewtrakimou, Slumbers and Monarch Mtn, not to mention songs from the creators themselves in the form of Spartan Jet-Plex and Good Good Blood. As you might expect, it’s also a great way to discover new artists, and while there are too many to write about properly, there’s enough variation in style and genre to ensure every music fan will find something to their liking.

Not content with the compilation, Nancy is organising a benefit show at Strange Matter in Richmond, VA on the 17th February, and working to put together a zine for which the theme is “social justice/civil rights – so anything related to that – drawings, photographs, comics, editorials, poetry, short story, etc.” Submissions are currently open until the 2nd January, so email spartanjetplex@gmail.com if you want to participate or help in any way.

You can buy Friends For Equality now via Bandcamp, and be sure to remember that the $5 price tag is a minimum suggestion (and impossibly generous for 42 tracks).
