Celestial Welsh band Yucatan are back with their first release since 2010’s Enlli EP. ‘Anghard’, the first single from the forthcoming full-length Uwch Gopa’r Mynydd, is shimmering, orchestral track that brings to mind post-rock stalwarts Sigur Rós. Indeed, frontman Dilwyn Llwyd is supposedly friends with Jónsi and co., and uses the intrinsic beauty of the Welsh language in the same way that the Icelandic band utilise their Hopelandic lyrics. There is something about Welsh that sounds ancient and natural and it’s a perfect match for Yucatan’s luscious, sweeping sound. As J.R.R Tolkien once said of the language:

“For many of us it rings a bell, or rather it stirs deep harp-strings in our linguistic nature. It is the native language to which in unexplored desire we would still go home.”

‘Angharad’ will be released on Recordiau Coll on the 1st June, with the album following later in the summer.
