Dropper are a Brooklyn-based four-piece formed with a mission. “We aim to infect ears with gritty and plucky songs that touch on the melancholy, absurd, and emotional notions of finding yourself,” the band explain, “sometimes in-spite of yourself, and baring your truths (with cans of cheap beer).” Their sound encompasses all of these moods, a style angular yet full of momentum too. The ideal vehicle for chasing after oneself, and exploring all the joy, mess and distress of the process.

Ahead of their debut full-length album Don’t Talk To Me, which is coming next February on Dog Dirt Records, Dropper have unveiled the lead single, ‘Don’t Worry’. Characteristically twitchy, the track has a hyperactive nature, nervous and impulsive, pulling hidden things out into the open before anyone else can beat them to the punch. In this case, the song focuses on self-destructive lifestyles and the descending spiral they hold over a person. “Spent so much of my life hungover / I’m boiling in my skin,” go the opening lines. “Pillows all turned pink and blue from my makeup / I feel myself aging.”

This self-deprecation certainly carries its own self-destructive tendency, but there’s something else at work too. The idea that acknowledging and owning the worst habits might be the first step in conquering them, or at least prevent the attached shame from taking over. For as the song accelerates into its blistering rhythm, Dropper’s mission is revealed in all of its scrappy glory. Not to provide answers, nor to pretend that a new life is just one change away, but rather face up to reality and not let it win.

Don’t worry
Don’t need your pity cause I do it to myself
