WHY? – Sod In The Seed EP

We mentioned a few weeks ago that Why? were set to release a new EP and today that is exactly what they have done, free of charge!

Yoni Wolf has to go down as one of the best lyricists in recent years (or all-time) and this EP is no different. The Lynchian mix of the bizarre and the mundane returns, with everyday activities (purchasing eggs in Safeway etc.) interspersed with the horrible (shitting black blood and pulling feathers from a newborn robin), the sad (the ‘first world curse’ of steady hurt) and the downright weird (building a fence with bird bones [from the aforementioned robins] and amethysts). I don’t think they have released a bad piece to date, a record that is well and truly intact with Sod In The Seed.

The new album Mumps, etc is due out on October 8th so the wait for yet more new material from Yoni and Co. is a short one.

WHY? – Sod In The Seed

Pitchfork have just announced that WHY? are to release a new EP, Sod In The Seed, in August (Through Anticon and City Slang) and plan to release a record (as of yet unnamed) sometime in the autumn.

The year was already shaping up to be a good one and news of two new releases from WHY? just add to the glut of excellent music in 2012. Yoni Wolf is right up there amongst the top comtemporary lyricists and you can expect this to continue on the new material. Sod In The Seed drops on August 13 in Europe, August 14 in the US. The title track from the EP is available to stream/download here.
