]]> Small Wonder’s Wendy is a gloriously human album. There is something in the oscillation between moods that is eerily recognisable, as if he is writing about you yourself. Anxiety and peace, melancholy and euphoria, the songs lurch between sensations that are immensely familiar, the sensations that constitute our 21st century existence.

As a result, listening to the album is a personal experience, something to treasure for yourself, a one-to-one link between songwriter and listener. The message transmitted across this link reminds me very much of a quote from Kurt Vonnegut’s Timequake:

“Many people need desperately to receive this message: ‘I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.”
