Francis of Delirium is a project formed by Vancouver artist Jana Bahrich, who invited Seattle drummer/producer Chris Hewett to form an indie rock band based in Luxembourg. Formed from a desire for something more, the band blend introspection and forceful energy to shine a light on the destructive thought patterns of young people today, hoping to blaze through the thicket of fear and doubt in order to clear ground so that growth might be possible once again.
Nowhere is this more apparent than on new single, ‘Quit Fucking Around’. A taster of a forthcoming Francis of Delirium EP, the song mixes intimate vulnerability with cathartic momentum to form something honest and affirming. Something that seems to be a real trademark of the Francis of Delirium style.
At first, the song intended to explore the social pressures around happiness and the way these dislodge us from the present, the debilitating expectation that we all display outward satisfaction and contentment at all times meaning that we’re only ever looking to a sure-to-be better future. However, this path soon led to an even more pervasive mindset—that of disillusionment and dread. “This feeling of hopelessness has permeated my life,” Bahrich explains, “whether it be because of the current political climate or the environmental crisis or just being eighteen and not knowing where you fit in the world.”
‘Quick Fucking Around’ is an attempt to shake free of this suffocating mood, to burn away the bracken in search of a brighter path. “Unsure of where to go or how to spend our life, a lot of this generation has adopted a cyclical, negative thinking pattern that I have been prone to too often,” Bahrich continues. “I wants to stress to the listeners and myself that we should “quit fucking around” and search for meaning, find purpose and allow that to guide our lives in order to break out of these unhealthy cycles.”
