Josaleigh Pollett – Bed of Quiet

Continuing to raise anticipation for new full-length If I Let It Quiet ahead of its release later this month via Audio Antihero and Lavender Vinyl, Josaleigh Pollett has returned with brand new single, ‘Bed of Quiet’. A self-described “exploration of what it takes to quiet the noise of geographical and emotional distance in order to hear ourselves and the ones who see us,” the album sifts through the full complexity of any one person’s headspace, seeking clarity amid the dense tangle of hopes, memories, fears and neuroses with the intention of passing out the other side with a firmer understanding of the self. Previous singles ‘Radio Player‘, ‘The Witness‘ and ‘Like a River‘ highlight the non-linear nature of such a path, each existing on a slightly different register as self-knowledge ebbs and flows according to the moment, and ‘Bed of Quiet’ is certainly no exception.

“‘Bed of Quiet’ is an over-thinker’s anthem.” as Josaleigh Pollett describes. “A song for the sleepless, and the hours spent playing and replaying scenarios on a loop in your brain where there is no right decision, digging for a yes or a no in a mountain of perhaps.” This style means the single is in many ways a microcosm of the album itself, attempting to reach through noise in order to hear better, or else be better heard, and the slightly surreal tone indicates the full difficulty of the endeavour. Because, despite our better efforts, such matters rarely stay within rational boundaries, our thoughts whirling away as though imbued with strange lives of their own. “We wanted the production to feel like it belonged in the middle of the night, when you’re not quite yet dreaming, but suspended above your body like a projected film of the last few week’s events you can’t stop watching, playing too loud for sleeping.”

If I Let It Quiet will be released on the 24th July via Audio Antihero and Lavender Vinyl and you can pre-order it now from Bandcamp.
