Following a handful of singles over recent years, dogpatch are preparing to release their debut EP, Small Magic. Previous songs like ‘Around That Bend’ and ‘Teddy’ have offered a glimpse into the project’s considered blend of folk, pop and rock. A sound sometimes warm and languid, sometimes upbeat and pressing, though always tied together by the soulful vocal style and the searching emotion they offer.
The first taste of the forthcoming EP, new single ‘Buzzin’ not only develops this style further but also hints at the meaning behind the release’s title. A song built around the depth of the vocals which ebbs and flows with a welcoming rhythm, drawing the listener into floating slack sections before quickening with rising feeling. “This song is about learning to love yourself and realizing that magic has always been within you,” the band explain, and the slow unfurl of the track presents this with the attention and care it deserves. Self-appreciation as a special thing.
