“A song of strength and vulnerability,” was how we described ‘Joangeline‘, the latest single by LA-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lauren O’Connell. But, as we continued, “what quickly becomes apparent is that the source of the fragility is not any sense of uncertainty or hesitation, rather the inherent sensitivity of exposing core truths.” Because O’Connell is digging deep into personal matters for the song. “Shedding outer armour as an act of defiance,” as we concluded, “deciding to be open no matter how much pain this might invite.”
The track has now been released alongside a second single, ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’. A song which furthers this search for honesty and authenticity through the prism of slow-burning country rock. The result is something between a confession and a promise, unfurling with an assured quality as Lauren O’Connell paints an emotional state both fierce and tender. “I wanna know the threads you weave / Spun silk of the lives that you lead,” as they sing with quiet passion, “Whatever you want me to see / Is in these hands / All at your command.”
I wanna break the dam
Overplay my hand
Baby if I can
I wanna be your man
