With new record More Love Hours Than Can Ever Be Repaid out next month on Anxiety Blanket Records, LA‘s New Balance have shared new single, ‘Niagara Falls Postcard’. The song is the ideal entry point for those unfamiliar with Jeremy Leasure’s work, the smooth retro sound edged by a certain outsider folk spirit, the rich arrangements and vocal harmonies of Jacob Maag and Emily Monnig bringing to life a distinctive view of the world.
“This song was written while I was working at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles as a Gallery Attendant,” Leasure explains. “I would be in a single room for the majority of my eight-hour shifts, with nothing to do but analyze the art and the people coming through.” One of the exhibitions he watched over was a retrospective on photographer and sculptor Zoe Leonard, whose postcard series on Niagara Falls caught the eye. “I would look at these postcards for hours on end imagining what it would be like to visit there,” Leasure continues. “Eventually, it got me thinking about the relationship that we as Americans hold with these natural wonders, and the good/bad of tourism without respect for nature. I still have not been to Niagara Falls.”
More Love Hours Than Can Ever Be Repaid is out on the 28th October via Anxiety Blanket and you pre-order it now from the New Balance Bandcamp page.
