Mediocre is the project of duo Piper Torrison and Keely Martin, multi-instrumentalists from Culver City, Los Angeles. Blending two parts indie rock with a dose of saccharine pop, the band pair attitude and emotion to produce a lush sound that sacrifices none of its raw bite. Take last year’s Emotion Sickness, where tracks like ‘Cloud 9’ and ‘Pauline’ walked a careful line between momentum and feeling, and marked the act as one to watch.
This month saw Mediocre return with brand new single, ‘Waiting for Your Heart’, their first on Dangerbird Records. Doubling down on the aforementioned aesthetic, the song is a propulsive alt rock hit coloured with a wistful charm. One where classic pop heartbreak rides a bouncy rhythm, late-night longing cast not as some sad mope but rather a bursting energy. The shivering excitement of what might be.
I wanna see ya
I wanna see your face
Baby you know, you’re just so pretty that I break
And when you hold her
Hold her in your arms
(I just wanna see ya)
Know I’m waiting for your heart

The song comes complete with a video directed, shot, and edited by Martin herself, chock full of suitably retro textures and bedroom angst. Check it out below:
