Consisting of three friends based in Asheville, North Carolina, Wild Array is an indie folk trio set to release their debut album, That Night, later this summer. Combining acoustic guitar and pedal steel with arpeggiations of synthesizer and sampled sounds, they weave a vibrant, compassionate sound which sits somewhere between The Cave Singers and Waxahatchee, and one capable of evoking the phenomenon of the album’s title. “Wild Array’s debut record That Night is not about a singular night,” the press release explains. “It is about the nights that stand out in the span of a lifetime […] They aren’t frequent, but they’re felt.”
In preparation for the record’s release, Wild Array have recently unveiled a brand new single, ‘Hominy Creek’. The track came into being during songwriting sessions on the porch in the midst of the pandemic, and the track’s themes draw upon that moment. The aching sadness of missing someone, the silence of distance and space. But rather than fold under the weight of this emotion, the song instead opts for a brightly hued rhythm. Something which captures the fondness of memories—the melancholic joy of that which is no longer present.
“Sunday and Monday, no sleep
think back to Hominy Creek
It’s been a while since I known
how you were”
That Night is out on the 6th August and you can follow Wild Array on Facebook and Instagram for more information.
