Chicago-based outfit Bnny came into being when lead Jess Viscius discovered songwriting could offer creative outlets that visual art could not. Having recently signed with Fire Talk Records, Bnny has released new single ‘Time Walk’ as a sign of things to come. Recorded and produced by Jason Balla (of Dehd), the song outshines its modest runtime through sheer motion. With skippy guitar and bass propped up by striding drums, the whole thing has a downhill quality, where motion encourages itself as every element clicks into a common direction.
Relatively downbeat against the peppy sound, Viscius’ vocals might stand in opposition to this mood, though in reality the effect is anything but contradictory. For the vocals get caught up in the same momentum, achieving the kind of lucidity only possible within a steady rhythm. “‘Time Walk’ is about the clarity you find when in motion—walking, driving, running,” Viscius says. “It’s about a friendship ending, but still feeling connected to the person. It’s about looking back while moving forward in slow motion. Time walk is a wake-up call.”
The single comes complete with a video, directed and edited by Viscius herself and filmed by Alexa Viscius. Shot in striking monochrome, the film is a sign that the background is visual art has not been left behind, and presents Bnny as a playful and cohesive project about to blossom.
‘Time Walk’ is out now via Fire Talk Records and you can get it from the Bnny Bandcamp page.
