Laurela – Sueños

Laurela is a project led by Chilean singer-songwriter Loreto Awad. Along with Alfonsina García (cello & vocals), Felipe Ibar (drums), Sebastián Mieville (guitar) and Matias Donoso (bass), they make a retro-flavoured dream pop that’s at once warm and evocative. As displayed by ‘Sueños’, the brand new single Laurela have recently released on Registro Móvil Discográfica, an independent record label and publisher based in Santiago.

‘Sueños’ (that’s “Dreams” for us non-Spanish speakers) is a fitting title, as the whole song unfurls in a dreamy sway, sweet and sighing with a tropical lilt. It is structured like a dream too, morphing from Spanish to English and back, from rich and enveloping moments where all the instruments come together to hushed, near-silent moments comprised of Awad’s voice and metronomic percussion. It even digresses into other songs with the seamless paradoxical logic of a dream, becoming three covers and an original song all in one.
