Jacqueline Tucci is a songwriter from Toronto, Canada, who cut her teeth as a solo acoustic artist. After developing a distinctive sound that balances catchy pop rhythms and atmospheric tones, Tucci is broadening her methods towards a full-band arrangement. With the addition of rock riffs and the weighty tempo of drums, the Jacqueline Tucci aesthetic is crystallising into its most realised form, and her willingness to incorporate assorted influences and break genre conventions suggests that the development will not stop here.
The year will see the release of Tucci’s debut EP, Jungle Sounds, and we now have the lead single to whet our appetites. ‘Fear’ makes good on the above promises, offering a crisp yet warm sound that’s imbued with a sense of confidence. With a clear punch yet patience too, the track walks the tightrope between playful and emotive, and never quite falls off either edge. The result is altogether more interesting, existing if not in tension then at least in a state that refuses easy categorisation, adding a genuine human element to the sound.
