Suzy Callahan unveils new album, See Through

Suzy Callahan is a songwriter from Washington D.C. who used to be the vocalist in the now defunct Devils Wielding Scimitars. Since, she has forged a solo career, crafting folk songs with pop and electronic twists, as her latest release See Through suggests. With songs stretching from haunting, intimate ballads to country-tinged soft rock, the six-song album finds Callahan (and collaborator Scott Tyburski) experimenting with her sound and exploring a variety of avenues.

The title track is a good introduction to record as a whole, with the delicate folk sound supporting Callahan’s gentle vocals. The song is equal parts sincerity and melancholy, a conscious decision to hold onto a good thing, no matter how small, to rise from sadness with a sense of hope or fondness intact. As such, the track is warm despite the sense of loss which permeates it’s sound and lyrics.

“I don’t remember what you said
Certain words I forget
Don’t know if you said what you meant to say

I don’t remember what I read
All the words not the best
Way to tell someone sweet or mean what you say
All I know is you spoke

Tenderly to me”
