Memorials of Distinction announce Sentimental Journey with single from Zebrafi

Memorials of Distinction, the Brighton-based label behind the Porridge Radio/West America split which we featured back in January, have announced a new compilation, Sentimental Journey. If the title sounds at all familiar, it’s because the comp is actually using re-purposed cassettes. They bought 25 copies of BMG’s Sentimental Journey and updated the contents to better suit our modern day needs. “Anyone who says music was better in the old days is an idiot,” they explain on Bandcamp. “Old music is rubbish.” Whether or not you agree, the mission is an interesting one, with acts such as Brain Wader, Fenne, handsome eric and WTD-fav Jake Rollins replacing the golden oldies. As MoD put it:

“The cassettes have been emptied of their disgusting post-war shmaltz, and are now full to the brim with the best contemporary underground pop music attainable”

To whet your appetite, they have unveiled a track from 18 year-old one-man-band Zebrafi. ‘Bad Vibes’ takes after Pavement and Kurt Vile, the vocals flat and cool and the instrumentation prone to bursts of noise. Have a listen below:
