Ryan Daniel Hammer is an experimental ambient artist (previously playing in Unwed Sailor and The Skull) who has recently released Lost Coast, an album influenced by “various mystical traditions & an enthusiastic love for the works of Philip K. Dick”. The album is dark and haunting and meditative. The blurb on Positive Beat Recordings, the label that have released the album, describes it as “an opportunity to journey within a land where lost is good, where time untethers, and every moment stretches toward (and yearns for) the elusive immanence of the Infinite”. The Positive Beats Bandcamp page also features another release from Hammer, a collaboration with Matt Joynt (of Anathallo) under the moniker Younger. This release, entitled New Message, is similarly experimental, featuring analogue synthesizers, vocal samples and light-sensitive theremin. Consisting of just two improvised tracks, both of which exceed 10 minutes in length, the album is in turns minimalist and mournfully emotive.
