Lyonnais – Want For Wish For Nowhere

Often with ambient, post-rock and drone music it’s difficult to relate unless there is some sort of story or imagery to put with it, some sort of context in which to place the sound (as described with Darwin Raymond’s record). Atlanta-based Lyonnais (comprised of Farbod Kokabi, Farzad Moghaddam, Lee Tesche, and TJ Blake) are another band who have allowed us to appreciate their sound, this time through the use of videos. The music they make is probably what would be labelled drone but has rock elements which makes the whole thing a lot more accessible than something like Sunn O))). The video for ‘A Sign From On High / Modern Calvary’, directed by Lee Tesche and Sam Campbell, is perfect for the tracks in question. A strange journey across golden deserts, part-Lawerence of Arabia, part Paris, Texas, with added cultish elements reminiscent of DeLillo’s ’The Names’. Marvellous

Want For Wish For Nowhere is available from HOSS Records and Rough Trade or can be streamed from their Soundcloud page.
