Stavrogin – Halves

Stavrogin is London based producer Theo Darton-Moore. His EP, Halves, was released (for free) way back in October on Courtship Records. It’s another one we really should have included in our free releases of 2011 posts.

Halves (four tracks, 15 minutes) is a mature release, especially considering that it’s his first. It’s punctuated by the kind of synth stabs and spliced vocals you’d associate with the heavy weights of the genre. However, this alone isn’t what makes the release so promising. It’s Stavrogin’s knack of creating space that sets him apart from a lot of producers that are delving into this scene at the moment. Unlike many first time releases, Halves doesn’t feel cluttered.

Check out the title track at the top of this post and feel free to download the EP in its entirety on a pay-what-you-want basis here. Also, check out Stray Landings, a blog setup by Theo to help promote unsigned Dubstep, Garage and House artists. It’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.
