Sam Kidel & Vessel

Earlier this year, I wrote about a split cassette release comprising two Bristol artists; Vessel and El Kid. It turns out, when not laying down ambient bass grooves and lo-fi piano pieces, El Kid also records loop-based guitar textures under his real name, Sam Kidel. His first release in this vein is out now on A Future Without, entitled String Loops. You can preview it on AFW’s bandcamp, where it is also available to buy on tape. This is however, limited to a run of merely 30 tapes, so if you want one, hurry up.

Coincidentally, Vessel also has also been busy, and has just released his Wax Dance EP on the same label. Vessel describes Wax Dance as

an account of movement and physical twitches made by the motion of sound.

Like his earlier work, Wax Dance is full of intricate detail and rustic lo-fi charm, while nonetheless retaining a deep sense of groove. If that piques your interest, then download the track “Blowback” free from XLR8R, while the full EP is available for the quite reasonable price of £3, from here.
