A Winged Victory for the Sullen is the new project by composer Dustin O’Halloran and Adam Wiltzie (of Stars of the Lid fame), apparently in memory of Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous. The sound is a happy medium between each individual’s usual work. The post-rock and ambient of Wiltzie is beautifully combined with the modern classical of O’Halloran’s piano. The result: seven stunning, emotive tracks that could just as easily soundtrack a film as make a good record.
The self-titled album is out on Kranky (US) and Erased Tapes (International) and features guest appearance by Peter Broderick and Hildur Guðnadóttir.
