Sekuoia – Trips

Sekuoia first came to my attention for his remixes of Sigur Rós and Cloud Boat. Both remixes were bewitching and delicate affairs but the job he did on Bastion was particularly special, managing to make the song feel even more intimate than usual while giving it an entirely new pulse. It didn’t so much pull at your heart strings as gently throb in the centre of your chest. Have a listen to it above to hear what I mean.

He’s followed up those remixes with Trips, his debut EP. While not as touching as his two remixes it does retain his ear for a beat, making ample use of sampled vocals and electronic refrains. Overall it’s an elegant release with a lovely comforting tone, setting it apart from the standard ominous, slightly off-kilter feel of many ‘post-dubstep’ releases.
