Savvy music people may already know all about Valley Maker, the recording project of Seattle’s Austin Crane (as well as some friends). The band had previously released an album Yes I Know I’ve Loved This World a few years back, before removing it from their Bandcamp and deciding to re-work and re-record, to produce the debut album that they deserved all along. It’s been a long wait for fans, but finally that album is nearing release. It is to be titled When I Was A Child and is promised to “contemplate life, love, and death, faith and doubt, time and space”. The press release also mentions such sacred names as Oldham, Callahan and Molina, which should give you an idea of the direction the songs will take. Lofty ambitions indeed. Luckily, I already know that Crane is up to the challenge, and I’m extremely excited to hear what the band have produced.
The first single, ‘Only Friend’, was unveiled yesterday on Stereogum. You can listen to it and watch the pretty video below:
When I Was A Child will be released on the 25th September. You can pre-order it now from Brick Lane Records.
