Sean Henry (of High Pop and Boy Crush) is the newest addition to the Double Double Whammy family. He is readying a new album, It’s All About Me, a record that was written and made on a secluded farm outside of NYC. If the blurb is anything to go by, it could be one to look our for:
“[An] introverted adventure- something completely self-produced, a broken, jangly lo-fi pop aesthetic…drenched with nostalgia, true friendship, travel, melancholic love, substance experimentation, paranoia, imperfection, a search for happiness, life and death.”
To our ears, first track ‘The Crow’ sounds like a man with something to convey, the deceptively loose instrumentation and production masking a carefully honed idea. When confronting big, complicated things like love, imperfection and death (AKA the HUMAN CONDITION), in art, surely the most fruitful method is not to sugar-coat the message in high production values and carefully constructed narratives but instead try to replicate the messy, fractured nature of our lives and consciousness?
The album is out on the 17th of July, on both on cassette and digital download, via Double Double Whammy. Until then, check out the darkly surreal video for ‘The Crow’:
