They say better late than never, but I’m fully aware that being on time is far superior to either. With that in mind, I’d like to apologise that this edition of Head In The Clouds is 5 days late. It’ll also be the last of the year, as compiling our end of year lists and reviews will take precedence throughout December. Here’s your last lot of 2014 …
I remember first hearing HudMo’s Chimes: Field Day 2013, during a TNGHT set. I don’t think that it was ever in doubt that it would eventually be used as a bed for some of hip-hop’s finest. It’s fair to say that Pusha T, Travi$ Scott, French Montana and Future all leave their own imprint on an already brilliant track.

Next up is Quiet Nights by Catching Flies. Calm and soothing, it’s the perfect background to your memories of 2014, whether good or bad. It’s also available for free download, so grab it while you can and reminisce about the good and the bad from the past 12 months a little longer.

It’s been almost 3 years to the day since we first mentioned Sekuoia. Then we were talking about his remix of Cloud Boat’s Bastion, this time we’re giving a mention to his latest effort, Waves. Whilst using a similar sound palette to much of his previous work, it’s a far more driven piece of music, with a much more ‘acoustic’ drumbeat driving proceedings. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more in 2015.

Chance the Rapper was responsible for one of our albums of 2013, grabbing second place in our album of the year list. Since then, he’s had his fingers in all sorts of pies. One of the most interesting is his band, Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment. Sunday Candy, the first track from the band, retains much of Chance’s appreciation for gospel. Dancing keys, wandering brass and a spattering of steel drums leave the track with a glorious feel good tinge. If the rest of the album lives up to this then it’ll be a shoe in for our 2015 album of the year list.

Our final track of 2014 is a remix featuring two of my guilty pleasures; Kanye and Sam Smith. Carlos Serrano seamlessly melds Can’t Tell Me Nothing with I’m Not The Only One. What we’re left with is a sombre, reflective mash up. Grab it while it’s free!
