Head In The Clouds: Vol 8

Not for the first time, our roundup of Soundcloud gems is a little last minute. But here is what we’ve been listening to this month.

First up is an eccentric piece of glitch-pop from Los Angeles based  Spazzkid. Released on Bad Panda Records, Weird Girl was inspired by the producer’s “love of J-Pop and Tokyo internet wave culture”. While I’m not entirely sure what that last bit means, it’s nicely energetic track comprised of choppy samples and upbeat melodies. It’s also free to download.

We’ve been following Vessel for a while, during which the Bristolian has come a long way. Taken from his forthcoming EP on Liberation Technologies, Misery Is A Communicable Disease is definitely not one for the dancefloor, eschewing groove for more mechanical rhythms and a relentlessly methodical build-up, but ending with something oddly euphoric.

Next up is a remix of a track from Mount Kimbie’s excellent Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, released earlier this year. Detroit house producer Kyle Hall’s reworking of You Took Your Time turns the woozy, down-tempo spoken word diatribe into nearly 8 minutes of club gold.

Taken from the forthcoming Beautiful Rewind LP (release date unknown as of yet), Parallel Jalebi is a fully formed piece of Hebden magic. Part juddering rhythms, part ethereal vocal collage, seamlessly melded into a track that I guarantee will have you eagerly awaiting the album.

As is often the case, I know absolutely nothing about Pascäal, other than the fact that he’s based in Austin, and has done something wonderful to Destiny’s Child hit Say My Name. His second EP, Fragile is out now, and can be found here.

That’s it for September. Hopefully at least one of these tracks has caught your attention. If not, our October list is on its way.
