First up is a new offering from Cyril Hahn. Best known for his remixes (particularly this beauty), Perfect Form is his first official single. It’s a lovely pulsing effort, drizzled in sunshine warmth and topped off with vocals by Shy Girls. Due to be released on the 9th of September via PMR.

When you think of Blackbird Blackbird you probably think along the lines of gentle chillwave bedroom pop. It’s for that exact reason that Refresh was so, well, refreshing, as it sees him embrace new sounds. The track’s tagged as, among other things; hip-hop, club, crunk, grime, rave and wonky, which should give you some idea of the direction he’s moved in. The most important tag however is probably 2013. This is Blackbird Blackbird updated. And it’s great.

Ras G is a stalwart of the LA beat scene, part of the same weird ecosystem as FlyLo, Shlohmo and Samiyam, so to a certain extent, you know what to expect. These guys have been mining the same seam of eclectic, woozy instrumental hip hop for years and yet they are still coming up with gold. G-Spot connection is a teaser for Ras G & The Afrikan Space Program’s new LP, out on Brainfeeder on August 14th.

This track from Luxembourg local Sun Glitters was apparently based on recordings made on CD-Rs, which were then roughed up to create stuttering rhythms and melodies. Somehow, that was cut together to make a track that is not only listenable, but actually rather pretty.

For their new album, Dalmak, Constellation Records’ Esmerine have drawn heavily from Turkish music, even recording parts of the album in Istanbul with local musicians. Barn Board Fire moves seamlessly from the music of the Bazaar to searing, fuzzy, reverb drenched guitar lines without ever losing momentum.

That’s your lot for July. Vol. 7 will be up at some point in August. Keep checking back for updates.
