Head In The Clouds: Vol 2

Welcome to Head in the Clouds: Volume 2, our monthly recap of all that’s lovely on Soundcloud.

First up are Cloud Boat. We’ve talked at length about this duo before, but this month saw the release of Dréan. Sparse and smouldering with angst, it’s absolutely beautiful. Released on Apollo Records as part of a double A side, you can download it on iTunes here. Vinyl copies are also available here. As if it couldn’t get any better, Cloud Boat have also released a live version, watch it here.

Next up is Departure from Kodak to Graph. Where Cloud Boat smoulder, Kodak to Graph drenches. The drop at 0:45 can only be described as the auditory equivalent of standing under a waterfall. We’ve been told to expect a single a month. I can only hope they’re all this good.

Thirdly is an offering from Valentina. First hitting the headlines thanks to a Joe Goddard remix of Gabriel back in 2011, her latest single Wolves is the title single from her forthcoming EP, to be expected at some point this spring. Wolves really kicks in at about 2:20, with the introduction of strings and drums bringing the single to a pulsating crescendo.

The next inclusion almost certainly deserves more time and space than this segment allows it, but until a fuller review can be put together, this will have to suffice. Cass. has released not only a single, but a whole new EP. Titled Loops & Farewell Sketches and released on shhhh records, Cass. treats us to fifteen minutes of glacial ambience, capturing the stillness of winter mornings almost perfectly.

There was only one song that I felt could really be used to finish off this months Head in the Clouds. With Glass Swords (released back in 2011), Rustie introduced me to a world where bat-shit-insane wasn’t quite crazy enough, in turn reminding me of the sheer enjoyment and hilarity that music could provide. Slasherr is the first we’ve heard of the Glaswegian since that release and it sounds goooood. The song’s probably best summed up by fellow WtD blogger Dave who produced the following gem on twitter: “I almost got really mad about this song, then I listened to it on headphones and died a whole bunch of times.” This is good time music.

That’s your lot for March. Enjoy the songs, enjoy the unexpected sunshine (while it lasts), and pop back in a month!
