The Voice Project

The Voice Project is a non-profit organisation/movement that aims to support people in the regions of Africa affected by war. TVP, like other organisations such as Artists For Peace and Justice (who are doing great work in Haiti), relies on the input of influential people to help spread the word and get aid to the countries that need it. The reason I’m writing about TVP here on Wake The Deaf is that rather than getting people like Olivia Wilde, James Franco and Charlize Theron to help out (as in Artists for P & J), TVP has a different method. They get musicians and bands to cover one another, post the recordings online and then use every penny of the money gained from sponsers, advertisments and donations to help the Ugandan people.

Any excuse to get  ARMS covering Sun Kil Moon, Parts & Labor covering No Age, The Low Anthem covering Phosphorescent or JBM covering M. Ward would be a good one but it just so happens this actually is a great cause. Check out the website for many more covers, including a great version of Home’ (by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros) sung by the Gulu women’s choir.
