Way Yes

Way Yes are from Columbus, Ohio and make upbeat, playful and slightly African-tinged music that is often juxtaposed with lyrics of a more serious nature. The second track on the Walkability EP ’Important’ is rather bouncy and jangly but the lyrics read: “here have all the people gone I used to call my friends?

I have always known I’d end up alone in the end.” I know it’s hardly the most cutting set of lyrics you’ll ever read but nonetheless it’s interesting to hear the difference in feeling between the written lyrics and the musical delivery of said words (if that makes any sense?).

Other songs, such as ‘Singing’ and ‘Ties’ also have a sombre subject matter but put a positive spin on things. It’s a very refreshing change from the lugubrious and often melodramatic music we listen to. Check these guys out!

“i get older every day,
i get closer to my death,
and i hope that when i go that i’ll be singing…

Walkability is available on Bandcamp, along with a free remix EP (featuring bands like Oberhofer) and an older release Herringbone.

*Shoutout to the brilliant Yvynyl who first posted about this band and got me on their trail. Nice one!
