Jon Hopkins – Monsters

I watched Gareth Edwards’ 2010 release Monsters (trailer here) last night for the first time. I was struck by three things:

  • It is a very good film.
  • It is a very good looking film.
  • It is a very nice sounding film.

Now, I will recommend the film to you as a whole, but even if you don’t fancy it, I fairly implore you to listen to the soundtrack. Composed by Jon Hopkins, it’s all subtle strings and soft pianos interspersed with ominous drones, all laid over the top of electric fiddles. The BBC seem to agree, declaring Hopkins “a composer with a subtle yet sublime vision.
