Touted as “Battles and Foals meets Animal collective”, Manchester’s Patterns have already attracted the attention of BBC Introducing and Xfm Xposures. After listening to their New Noise EP, I can fully understand why. From the festive bells of opener Broken Trains, to the cascading, reverb laden loops of closing track Wrong Two Words, Patterns manage to wriggle free of any and all attemps to pin down their sound. Shoegaze is close, but just doesn’t quite encapsulate what Patterns have done with New Noise. Fortunately, the EP is available for free from here.
