Watch The Antlers Perform Their New Album

The Antlers are currently at the SXSW Festival in Texas and will be playing their new album in full on March 17th at 17:00 EST (that’s 21:00 in the UK). NPR will be streaming the gig here so mark the date in your diary and log on!

The new forthcoming album, Burst Apart, is out on May 9th on Frenchkiss Records:

01 I Don’t Want Love
02 French Exit
03 Parentheses
04 No Widows
05 Rolled Together
06 Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out
07 Tiptoe
08 Hounds
09 Corsicana
10 Putting the Dog to Sleep

My only fear with this is the off-chance that it may spoil the album when the record finally comes out. After seeing The Antlers perform Hospice live I sometimes find (depending on my mood) myself wishing the recorded versions where closer to the live experience. I don’t mean this in a negative way, the band clearly intend the gigs to be a more organic, ‘rocky’ affair than the album, but there is a lot to be said for both versions of the songs.

The National experienced a backlash when the released their album High Violet as the version of the opening track (’Terrible Love’) on the record was completely different from the song that they had previewed previously at their shows. Both versions have their merits but the fans were expecting something which didn’t appear until later in a re-release.

I’ve been side-tracked. Anyway, head along to the NPR website this week for some great live shows from The Antlers and others such as Bright Eyes, The Joy Formidable, tUnE-yArDs, Middle Brother and James Blake.
