It’s always sad to see good bands die. More often than not, the band members fade into obscurity, change direction or stop playing all together. Sometimes their musicianship lives on through various other bands (you only need to look at what former members of Botch are up to now to see a great example of this), but it is very rare for a musician to break away after a split and carry on the legacy of the band that they left. This is exactly what Dave Swanson – former guitarist of Life In Your Way – has done with his solo project The Frozen Ocean. Taking the impassioned lyrics and considered production of LIYW and exchanging melodic hardcore for pianos, acoustic guitars and banjos, Swanson has crafted two short but profound records which, in spite of their simplicity, seem to go a step further than most other artists in the genre.
